KYSERIKE, N.Y. — Freshman sensation Javi Rodriguez scored four goals for the second game in a row to lead SUNY Ulster’s men’s soccer team to 6-2 win over Hudson Valley Community College Saturday at Rondout Valley High School.
Rodriguez, a forward from Newburgh, tallied four goals in the Senators’ season opening victory over Tompkins Cortland
Community College.
On Saturday, SUNY Ulster (2-0) fell behind 1-0 on a goal by Hudson Valley Community College in the first minute. Sophomore Modou Badjie of Kingston tied it at 1-1 with a strike from 20 yards out in the game’s fourth minute. Then, a minute later, Rodriguez scored after a pinpoint pass from Dantae McDonald to make it 2-1.
Rodriquez tallied three more goals in the first half to stake the Senators to a 5-1 halftime lead.
Badjie got his second goal of the game in the 49th minute to wrap up the scoring for SUNY Ulster.
Kingston High grad Cody Baker, a freshman, made two saves in his first complete game as a goalie for the winners. Frank Rodrigues (Newburgh) had two assists and Anthony Murcia (Newburgh) had one for the Senators.
SUNY Ulster outshot Hudson Valley 20-6 and had a 13-3 advantage on shots on goal. The Senators also had a 10-2
advantage with corners.
SUNY Ulster travels to Herkimer Community College for a 4 p.m. contest on Thursday, Sept. 8.
