Coxsackie-Athens 1
Maple Hill 0
COXSACKIE — Coxsackie-Athens hosted Maple Hill for the final Patroon Conference boys soccer regular season game of the year and earned a 1-0 victory.
The unbeaten Wildcats just came off a successful weekend beating Ichabod Crane to win their annual tournament. They took the field and battled CA right from the start.
The Riverhawks weathered the storm for the first 15 minutes and began to get themselves collected and play better soccer.
The lone goal came with 15 minutes left in the first half when Shane DeRose collected the ball just outside the penalty box and hit a rocket into the side netting to give the Riverhawks the 1-0 lead.
The second half was controlled by Maple Hill but Coxsackie-Athens never broke. Playing a strong defense and having some clutch saves by goaltender Sam Mozzillo helped the Riverhawks walk away with the win.
The two teams face off again this Thursday at 4:30 p.m. at Maple Hill in the first round of the Patroon Conference Championship Tournament.

This was a tough game to not have our goalie, but I am very proud of our team for working hard the entire game. The third quarter was our best quarter played in which we didn’t allow them to score.”
