Ledyard — Bacon Academy clinched at least a share of the Eastern Connecticut Conference Division II boys’ soccer championship with a 5-0 victory over Ledyard on Saturday morning.
It was the ninth straight victory for the Bobcats (11-1-2, 6-1), who can win the title outright with a win or tie against Stonington (5-2 in the division) on Wednesday in Colchester. Ledyard is 7-6-1, 4-2-1.
Bacon, which scored an own goal just two minutes before halftime to take a 1-0 lead, broke the game open with four goals in the second half. Steven Laliberte had a goal and an assist in the second half while Drew Ferrigno, J.P. Fougerouse and Brayden Ward each scored a goal, Nico Matteucci, and Gabe Mahon each had assists and goalie Evan St. Louis made four saves.
Paulo Templeton made 10 saves in goal for the Colonels.
In other matches:
• Norwich Free Academy knocked NCCC regular-season champion Ellington from the unbeaten ranks with a 3-1 non-league victory. Rood Apolon had two goals and an assist for the Wildcats (8-4-1) while Louis Hawkins scored the other goal and Landon LeSage and Ethan Williams added assists. Ellington is 14-1.
• East Lyme played unbeaten Old Saybrook to a 2-2 draw. The Rams (12-0-2) tied the game in the second half on a goal by Kevin DeCapua. The Vikings (8-3-3) scored a pair of goals in the first half as Brendan Osso scored off an assist by Quincy Gates-Graceson in the 28th minute and A.J. Montesano scored off a long throw-in by Ryan Novick two minutes later. Connor Piper made six saves in goal for East Lyme.
Girls’ soccer
• Megan Armstrong scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner with just 50 seconds remaining, as Ledyard defeated Valley Regional 3-2 in a non-league match. Helena Robinson also scored for the Colonels (8-4-1) while Maddie McLeod and Jess English each had an assist and goalies Bella Drummond and Jess Dudley combined for seven saves.
• Nicole Hudson scored a pair of goals as Montville rolled to a 6-0 victory over Windham in an ECC Division III match at Eastern Connecticut State University. Katie Koning, Kate Bowman (penalty kick), Allie Kondash and Teagan Caviness also scored goals for Montville (8-4-2, 6-1) while Alexa Tufares and Lily Tomczik had one assist apiece.
Field hockey
• Norah Walsh’s goal with just 6:58 remaining lifted Stonington to a 1-0 non-league victory over previously unbeaten North Branford 1-0. Marina Lewandowski earned the assist for the Bears (10-2-1) after Walsh deflected Lewandowski’s shot to the left post into the net. Stonington held a 9-8 edge in shots against the Thunderbirds (15-1) with Madi Allard stopping all eight shots in goal.
Volleyball
• Waterford rallied for a 3-1 victory over East Lyme. Game scores were 11-25, 25-23, 25-20 and 28-26. Lillian Steinhaus had 24 assists, 16 digs, three kills and an ace for the Lancers (13-5) while Marina Colonis added 19 digs, six kills, seven aces and one block, Emerson Lane had nine kills, three digs and three blocks, Mia Petrini had 16 digs and two aces and Erica Mugovero had 12 digs. Skylar Bell had 36 digs for the Vikings (13-4).
• Cromwell defeated New London 25-20, 25-11 and 25-18 in a non-league match. Nalyce Dudley had five kills, 10 service points, one ace and digs for the Whalers (0-16) while Nyarah Dudley added six points, one ace and eight digs, and Ky-Ani Allgood five aces and one kill.
• Coventry defeated NFA 25-14, 27-25 and 25-21 in a non-league match. Stella Hogan had five kills, one block and four digs for the Wildcats (3-12) while Jillian Dykema added seve digs, Evelina Klyukin four kills, five blocks and one ace, and Ella Bean nine assists and one kill.
• Coventry defeated Lyman Memorial 3-2 on Friday night by game scores of 25-21, 25-16, 16-25, 25-27 and 16-14. Kassidy LaTour had a career-high 22 kills to go along with 26 digs for Lyman (14-5) while Carlee DeRoehn added nine kills, 15 assists and four aces and Arianna Garcia 36 digs.
• Kuranda Ruggiero had 23 assists, six aces, four kills, 13 digs and one block during Griswold’s 3-1 win over Waterford in an ECC Division I match on Friday night. Gretta Dombkowski added seven kills, four aces, 10 digs and one block for the unbeaten Wolverines while Emily Aviles had 20 digs and one ace and Kierra Neilson added nine kills, three aces and one block.
Cross country
• Senior Ryan Tedeschi placed third overall in 27:23 during Williams School’s final home meet of the season against Fishers Island. Dorian Poulard (fifth, 28:08) and Calvin LaFrance (ninth, 29:02) were also top 10 finishers for the Blues while Helen Godshall (11th, 29:52) paced the Williams girls.
