CHATHAM — The Chatham Panthers defeated the Taconic Hills Titans 10-0 in Tuesday’s girls soccer match-up in the Patroon Conference.
Addison Perry scored five goals and had one assist in the rout, including four in the first half as the Panthers cruised past the Titans. Maya Narofsky scored twice for Chatham, Kamryn Hanson, Rylie Barden, and Oliana DeLuca each scored once, and Marianna Chudy had three assists to round out the offense.
Panther keepers Olive Mountain and Helen Tassinari combined for the shutout in a game where the Chatham defense did not allow Taconic Hills a single shot on net. .
The Panthers got an early corner that was cleared out by the defense for another, and the second corner deflected out of bounds for a goal kick. Chatham did a great job of maintaining an extended possession on the Titans’ side of the field, but could not put a shot on net during it.
Taconic Hills answered back with a corner kick of their own but it was cleared out of the box by Panther defender Dayaa Powell. The Panthers kept the pressure on the Titans with their lengthy attacks but Taconic Hills keeper Alyssa Bleau made multiple saves throughout the first half.
Chatham broke the ice a little over ten minutes into the game after Emmy Velez stole a Titans’ pass and Addi Perry shot it into the back of the net for a 1-0 Panther lead at the 29:21 mark.
Bleau made another nice save on a line drive shot by Chatham’s Alaina Graziano, which led to the Titans taking it all the way to the other end, only to have the Panthers steal it back in the corner. Taconic Hills got a free kick just past midfield that was taken by Jacqueline Arre, but was cleared out of the area as soon as it came in near the box.
Bleau made a few more saves on shots by the Panthers who were relentless on offense. With less than 16 minutes to go in the half, Perry hustled to grab a loose ball on the Titans’ side of the field and scored her second goal of the day.
Over the next minute and ten seconds of game time, Perry completed a hat trick and scored a fourth time to double the Panthers’ lead to 4-0 as the half came to an end.
Less than three minutes into the second half, Kamryn Hanson weaved through the Titans’ defense, into the box, and found the back of the net for a score and a 5-0 lead for Chatham.
The Panthers stayed aggressive on offense yet disciplined on defense as the game wore on further into the second half. Hanson put another shot on goal a few plays later, but it was stopped by the Titans’ new keeper for the second half, Emilie Macchi. Maya Narofsky had one shot on net go wide of the goal and a second deflected in the box. Rylie Barden was there to handle the tip on the second one and scored at the 30:05 mark to widen the lead to 6-0 in favor of the Panthers.
Goal kicks by Taconic Hills were not going far enough to be clear of trouble and Chatham kept a player close to the box because of that, allowing them to steal multiple passes. Perry sent a couple more shots towards the goal with one going over the crossbar and another wide of the net.
Near the midway point of the second half, Chatham had another three-goal burst in under a minute and a half of game time. Perry sandwiched her fifth goal of the game between a pair of goals by Narofsky and the Panthers’ massive lead grew to 9-0 with 20:16 on the clock. Chatham got a few more corner kicks that led to no goals but were great for running time off the clock as the game neared its end.
Oliana DeLuca found herself with the ball on another Chatham possession in Taconic Hills territory. She lifted a shot toward the net from the top left corner of the box, and it landed past Macchi for the Panthers’ tenth goal of the game and a 10-0 lead, with exactly 10:00 left in the contest. Chatham was content to play keep away the rest of the way and prevented Taconic Hills from putting a shot on net the entire game.
Soon the time wound down to 0:00 and the Chatham Panthers were victorious 10-0 over the visiting Taconic Hills Titans on Tuesday afternoon.
Chatham will play Coxsackie-Athens on Saturday and Taconic Hills hosts Coxsackie-Athens on Thursday afternoon
