STONE RIDGE, N.Y — SUNY Ulster’s men’s soccer team blanked Rockland Community College 5-0 on Thursday to finish the regular season with an unblemished 4-0 record in the Mid-Hudson Conference.
With their victory, the Senators (8-2-1 overall) earned the right to host the conference championship against an undetermined foe at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, at Rondout Valley High. SUNY Ulster is the defending champion.
Freshman Javi Rodriguez scored two goals in the eighth and 44th minutes to lead SUNY Ulster over Rockland (2-1 conference, 2-6-1 overall). Madou Badjie of Kingston had a goal in the 24th minute and
also had an assist.
Kingston’s Jafet Mendez scored on a penalty kick in the 34th minute and added an assist. Frank Rodriguez had the Senators’ other goal. Edwin Cuesta also had an assist for SUNY Ulster.
Kingston’s Cody Baker and Eduardo Romero split time in goal for the winners.
“A good team performance to end the regular season,” SUNY Ulster coach Jamal Lis-Simmons said. “We controlled the game from the beginning. I was glad that everyone got an opportunity to play.”
SUNY Ulster had big advantages over Rockland with shots (27-3), shots on goal (9-0) and corners (8-0).
